Treating hyperhidrosis with needlescopic thoracic sympathectomy

Aims: to evaluate possibility of application, technique and results of needlescopic thoracic sympathectomy at Viet Duc university hospital. Methode: Prospective study on endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy for hyperhidrosis of the upper limbs. Results: From 3/2005 to 4/2006 there are 19 cases of hyperhidrosis treated at Viet Duc university hospital by technique of needlescopic thoracoscopy. The mean age was 24 and sex ratio was 11 women/19 men. The operative time was 17 mm and there were no intra-operative complication. In the post-op period, there were 2 pneumothorax needed treatment, the hospital stay was 1.7 days and no mortality. Conclusions: Needlescopic thoracic sympathectomy was a feasible, safe and effective technique in treatment of hyperhidrosis with advantage to conventional endoscopic thoracoscopy on post-op of less pain, shot hospital stay and better cosmetic result.
