What Are the Causes of Sweaty Palms?

Causes of Sweaty Palms

Surely you have at least once experienced the feeling when palms sweat from excitement. If this is a one-time situation, don’t worry. However, what if the problem occurs regularly? It is important to understand why palms are sweating. In this article, we will talk about the causes of this phenomenon and how to get rid of the problem.

Common causes of sweaty palms

The human body contains more than two million sweat glands. They are located around the entire perimeter of the skin, including on the palms. The main function of the glands is to remove excess water from the body, to maintain constant thermoregulation of the body. Many scientists speak about this.

Everyone, regardless of age and lifestyle, can face increased sweating of the palms. Excessive moisture production in hot weather, during physical activity or due to excessive excitement is normal. However, what to do if palms sweat regardless of these reasons? Of course, you should see a doctor. Excessive moisture on the palms may be caused by malfunctions in the body or serious diseases.

Many patients complain of excessive sweating of their hands. In most cases, the cause was hidden in constant stress. Another common reason is a malfunction of the endocrine system or hormonal changes (adolescence, menopause). The thing is that hormones control the work of the whole organism. Therefore, first of all, we recommend checking the thyroid gland, adrenal glands, pancreas.

There are many sweaty palms causes. In addition to those listed, doctors name the following grounds:

  • nervous overstrain;
  • panic attacks;
  • excess weight;
  • diseases of the circulatory system;
  • vegetative-vascular dystonia;
  • genetic problems;
  • menopause in women;
  • various viral or infectious diseases;
  • diabetes.

These are not all the reasons why palms sweat. In the experience of my some doctors, excessive moisture in the hands can occur due to completely unexpected factors, for example, due to the diet – sometimes sweating is formed due to the frequent use of spicy foods, coffee, alcohol. Also, excessive sweating can be caused by the use of certain medications.

Often not only the palms but also the legs or the whole body become wet. This individual feature is called hyperhidrosis.

Nevertheless, we still recommend that you consult a doctor for medical advice. There are several ways to help you deal with excess sweating on any part of your body.

Why palms sweat and how to get rid of it at home

As you can see, there are plenty of reasons for such a phenomenon. It is possible to deal with the problem only after the cause is established.

Patients often ask: “Is it possible to deal with palm-sweating at home?” We highly recommend that you do not prescribe treatment yourself. The only thing you can use is special hand deodorants. But beware: experts say such products may not help or even cause allergies. Therefore, we would still recommend consulting a medical specialist. You can start with your family doctor.

We will share tips that will help if your palms sweat a lot:

  • Cool down. Have sweaty palms? First of all, people who are faced with excessive sweating need to observe the temperature regime. Ventilate the room more often, turn on a humidifier during cold seasons, and avoid overheating in hot weather;
  • Watch your water balance. Are you trying to drink less because of sweaty hands? Completely in vain. On the contrary, you should drink more fluid – perhaps this is the problem;
  • Change your makeup. Palm sweating can occur if you use too greasy hand creams. They clog pores and prevent your skin from breathing normally. This does not mean that you need to stop using cosmetics. Get lightweight moisturizing emulsions that are instantly absorbed;
  • Use alcohol solutions instead of soap. Use a hand sanitizer after using the toilet. They dry and cool the skin a little;
  • Purchase baby powder. Talc and starch dry out the skin without irritating it;
  • Try a baking soda massage. If your hands are sweating a lot, massage your palms with baking soda regularly. This remedy will help reduce sweating. Dilute the baking soda with water to a slurry state and rub into the skin for 5 minutes. Then wash your hands without soap;
  • Rub your palms with apple cider vinegar. Do the procedure regularly before bed;
  • Get sage pads. Such a simple tool can be done independently. Carry the sachet with you and wrinkle in your hands from time to time. This will help dry out the skin and neutralize odors.
